Be Creative And Steal!!

A fantastic inspirational book www.shop.tate.org.uk
"Art is theft" Pablo Picasso.

I love this book it captures how creativity can be both born and nurtured by being inspired by other creatives. Originality can be hard to discover at times and as the book quotes:

"What a good artist understands is that nothing comes from nowhere. All creative work builds on what came before. Nothing is completely original."

Therefore trying to be original for the sake of it does not really work. This quote by T.S Elliot sums up what "Steal Like An Artist" is in essence about.

"Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different. The good poet welds his theft into a whole feeling which is unique, utterly different from that from which it was torn."

Austin Kleon lists ten things nobody told you about being creative in his excellent book. This book is not just for people who know they are creative, it is for everyone! Everyone is creative, the human brain functions in that way. Maths and science based areas are incredibly creative, I just wish someone had told me this when I was at school. I would have looked at the world a whole lot differently. Embracing influence rather than running away from it is liberating on many levels.  I hope this book will help all who read it see how creativity can be part of their life. Enhance what you have, and be creative, go out and do great work.

Happy stealing everyone!
A big thanks to Austin Kleon, for writing such a fantastic book!
