Smith & Stephenson lifestyle and home ware store 66 Union Street Ryde

On a recent Visit to Ryde on the Isle Of White I was expecting to see the shabby seaside town I had visited some eight years earlier, not so! As we embarked off the reconditioned London tube train that links the ferry to the town via a wooden jetty, we were met with "The Chocolate Apothecary", a heaven sent start! Selling a selection of handmade chocolates, patisseries and coffee in an apothecary surround, we hoped this was a sign of good things to come! Onwards to Union Street where we discovered an eclectic mix of independent stores selling individual and inspiring wares. Smith & Stephenson with it's cool grey façade and washing line  window display served up an array of blazing colourful, kitchen wear, rugs, cushions and stationary. The store Crocus revealed an interior of contemporary home ware, and stationary, with a surprise and wonderful craft section at the rear, selling fabric; wool; patterns; sewing equipment; craft books and packs. Beachcomber as it's name suggests sold all things nautical inspired for the home. Flowers by Nic and Gibbs and Gurnell chemist, both traditional stores worth a visit. With Camp Bestival coming up I highly recommend you festival goers drop in to Ryde for some inspiring independent shopping! All hale the independents!! Thanks to all the shop keepers of Ryde who have helped maintain an individual high street persona, Style Industries Salutes you!
